By measuring a machine’s performance, Samsys and Poclain’s solutions help determine if the vehicle and its components are the right fit for a particular job. They also provide insights for new developments, machine daily operation and support for maintenance and servicing.

"Can we offer an electric version of our mining vehicle?"

It is the question a mining vehicle OEM asked Poclain for a four-ton low-profile mining truck.

Assessing the feasibility of going electric requires visibility on multiple parameters, including:

  • Grade pattern: time spent driving uphill, downhill, and on flat terrain
  • Speed pattern: time spent accelerating, decelerating, cruising, maximum speed, and frequency of speed peaks
  • Torque and energy demand including idle time
  • Contextual conditions such as ambient temperature

Collecting and analyzing the data enables us to assess the energy consumed and the energy that can be recovered using regenerative braking. It also allows to quantify the time slots available for charging when the machine is idle.

Poclain’s Connected Services team collected the data over a few weeks and generated mission profiles that map what the vehicle does daily. Based on our findings and the collaboration with the Poclain e-mobility team, we drafted the blueprint of the vehicle’s electric transmission.

"Can we have more visibility over our fleet’s usage?"

The ag equipment co-op La-Croix-aux-Bois in the North of France pools 60 agricultural machines to 70 neighboring farmers. Before onboarding Samsys, equipment rental was calculated based on what the farmers logged by hand in notebooks. Equipment rental was done over the phone.

Today the co-op’s fleet sports Samsys databoxes, which collect data on fuel consumption, vehicle localization, arable surface covered, and driver behavior. Equipment reservations are made online.

The co-op managers have more visibility on equipment usage and can apply fair fees to the members. They also save time in managing the equipment rental schedules and are faster to arrive on location when a machine is down.
